My feet are sometimes swollen…
25 year old Seema, noticed that her footwear which she could easily slip her feet into is now not fitting her well. She was surprised that there was swelling in her feet. 1st she thought that it may be due to sitting long hours in office. But then she started getting muscle cramps too. The swelling would become less when she would elevate her feet but when she would start walking or sitting it would return. She had started to get tired also very easily. Then she visited her family physician and on examination she was found to have mild swelling in her neck too. He advised her to do a blood test to check for her haemoglobin and thyroid hormones. She was detected with an underactive thyroid i.e. Hypothyroid but since there was a swelling she was told that she suffered from Hashimoto’s Disease. She always believed in taking natural home remedies than conventional medicines unless the condition was worse. So she opted for homoeopathy and was prescribed medicine with diet and exercise instructions. Slowly and gradually she improved and the swelling had all gone. A regular check was advised to her to know the thyroid hormones and thyroid antibodies activity.
Hashimoto’s disease/ Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system turns against the body’s own tissues. In people suffering from Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, the immune system attacks the thyroid. This can lead to a condition called hypothyroid in which the thyroid does not make enough hormones for the body’s need. The swelling in the neck is because the thyroid gland is swollen and enlarged. This condition is called as goitre.
Symptoms of an underactive thyroid or hypothyroid include:
Swelling is a major symptom of hypothyroid and is also referred to as ‘myxedema.’ When the affected part in pressurized with a finger and then released the skin usually bounces back. This is known as non-pitting oedema. This swelling is usually found on the face, eyes, hands and feet. There is a feeling of stiffness when you wake up.
Other symptoms include: Unusual sensitivity to cold, weight gain inspite of poor appetite, slow and weak pulse, lack of enthusiasm and dullness, abnormal menstruation or pregnancy, fatigue, depression and hairloss.
Healing with Homoeopathy for Autoimmune Thyroid Diseases
Homoeopathy helps to produce thyroid hormone naturally by stimulating the immune system and helps in better functioning of the thyroid gland.
Homoeopathic remedies work by stimulating the body’s own healing capacity by encouraging the body to reactivate hormone secretions.
Homeopathy is free from any side-effects.
Stress causes hormonal disturbances in the body like thyroid problems which is very effectively treated with homeopathy.
Homoeopathy is a mind-body medicine. Homoeopathy treats not only the physical complaints, but also targets the mind and gently restores mind-body equilibrium- thus it treats the patient as a whole.
A complete recovery is possible in most cases with homoeopathy.
In the above case where the condition produces antibodies against thyroid can be only dealt with when the immunity of the body is at par. Hence, Homoeopathy always works to get this deviated immunity back to normal.
Synthetic hormonal replacement medicines given in conventional medicines, when taken for a long time could in turn cause thinning of hair which is a known side-effect. Homoeopathy even if taken for years together does not cause hair thinning. It makes your immune system stronger and helps you live a better health related quality of life.
