Diabetes is a reflection of the body's inability to function optimally. Or, imbalance that results in the one’s incapacity to effectively utilise insulin that it produces, or does not generate it sufficiently for its needs.

Diabetes can cause serious health risks, such as loss of vision, hypertension, depression, atherosclerosis, kidney failure and limb amputation. It also more than doubles the risk of heart disease and stroke.

The downside is most people do not know that they may have diabetes — this is one major flaw why treatment and lifestyle changes often come in a tad late. It is also deduced that some people may actually have diabetes for 5-10 years, before they are diagnosed — but, by this time unalterable tissue and organ damage may have taken place.

More importantly, the incidence of non-insulin dependent [type-2] diabetes has increased by an astonishing 600 per cent, during the last four decades.

Genetics plays a major role in the development of diabetes, yet the point is our genetic make-up doesn't alter so radically and in quick time, so we will all do well to look and treat certain contributing factors that lead to diabetes.

Obesity is a major trigger for diabetes. Research reports that people who watched 21-40 hours of TV a week had more than twice the risk of developing diabetes than people who watched little or no television. Diet also plays a crucial role. Studies suggest that even normal individuals may be affected — this is because weight gain may result in carbohydrate intolerance and high insulin levels. Besides, the progressive development of insulin insensitivity is believed to be the primary underlying factor in the development of type-2 diabetes. It is, therefore, suggested that healthy weight loss could correct most abnormalities, or significantly control diabetes and its severity.

Homeopathic treatment for diabetes aims at the holistic management of the disorder rather than ‘cure.’ Timely administered homeopathic medicines for diabetes often help in maintaining normal levels of insulin and anti-diabetic drugs, at the minimum possible dosage, and in possibly preventing progressive worsening and/or complications.

Homeopathy can complement modern [conventional] medicine in diabetes. In a clinical study in Athens, Greece, a group of patients with non-insulin dependent [type-2] diabetes mellitus were treated with a conventional oral anti-diabetic drug [Daonil 5mg] and placebo [Group-1]. Another group was given the same oral anti-diabetic drug and homeopathy [Group-2]. The duration of treatment lasted nine months of parallel treatment. Group-1 showed 47 per cent improvement, while Group-2, on conventional medication and homeopathy, showed 97 per cent improvement.

Homeopathic treatment of diabetes helps to stimulate the body's self-healing powers to prevent or manage other health conditions related to diabetes; it also takes into account the fact that no two diabetic individuals present with identical symptoms. Each of us is unique, with our own distinctive fingerprint, or signature, in health and illness. Homeopathy looks at the person, the individual, in toto, including the origin, or ‘root,’ and the characteristic nature of the disorder — diabetes.

Put simply, homeopathic medicine and treatment for diabetes, under the guidance of a professional homeopathic physician, at the clinic, provides the natural therapeutic touch, or stimulus, for the body to bring in a sense of balance and harmony. The treatment also incorporates everyday life changes. It distils the person’s physical, mental, emotional, psychological and spiritual aspects, including sensitivities and sensibilities too — to usher in safe, healthy, tangible, long-term treatment outcomes.
