REVERSE THYROID DISEASE NATURALLY WITH HOMEOPATHY

Hyperthyroidism

It is amazing to see how many problems a slowdown in the output of the thyroid gland can cause: extreme fatigue, intolerance to cold, weight gain, dry hair and dry skin to name a few. Millions of Indians have an underactive thyroid, a condition known as hypothyroidism. That means this butterfly-shaped gland doesn't produce enough thyroid hormone to regulate metabolism, causing many body functions to become sluggish. The resulting symptoms are low spirits and dull moods. They are usually ones that can be controlled with a daily dose of synthetic thyroid hormone called levothyroxine.

Evidence suggests many people are taking this medication unnecessarily to the point of over treatment. It is being prescribed widely for people with borderline hypothyroidism, and often without much benefit. The best way is to check the level of circulating TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) in blood. A normal TSH value is under 4.0 Milli-International Units Per Litre (mIU/L). When the TSH level is above 10mIU/L then administration of synthetic thyroid hormone is appropriate. TSH levels between 4mIU/L and 10mIU/L can be monitored well with the help of well selected homeopathic remedies.

There are specific kinds of thyroid types that include-

Hypothyroidism - It occurs when the thyroid gland produces insufficient amount of thyroid hormone

Hyperthyroidism - It occurs due to excessive production of thyroid hormones-a less common condition than hypothyroidism

Goiter disease-It is just an enlargement of the thyroid gland regardless of the cause.

Thyroid nodules-they are lumps or abnormal masses within the thyroid. Nodules can be caused by benign cyst, benign tumours and less commonly by thyroid cancer.

Thyroid cancer-When cell begin to grow out of control in thyroid gland.

Thyroid disorders affect women more commonly than men. The interaction between thyroid and a woman’s reproductive hormones is significant. Thyroid problems in women first arise during times of hormonal unrest, such as childbearing and periods of prolonged or intense emotional, physical and mental stress. Effects of thyroid problems in women lead to fatigue, erratic periods, weight gain and increased risk of type-2 diabetes and infertility if it is hypothyroidism.

Homeopathic Treatment For Thyroid Disorders

Homeopathic treatment has been found to be very efficacious in cases of sub clinical and mild hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. Even the goiter disease (enlarged thyroid gland that causes the neck to swell) can be managed well with homoeopathy. In extreme cases where the hyperactivity of thyroid gland has affected other vital organs, homeopathy has a limited role. Homeopathic medicines when rightly selected after detailed history and evaluation can stimulate thyroid gland to start producing adequate hormones. This may eventually lead to a reduction of thyroxin doses and then completely stopped. Causes of hypothyroidism mainly include the hostile behaviour of your immune system when it attacks body’s own cells and organs known as autoimmune thyroiditis. The other cause of thyroid disease is nutrient deficiency mainly of iodine, zinc and selenium. Thyroid treatment in homeopathy works in the body at the immunity level and restores the deviated function. Eighty percent of the immune system resides in the gut, and gut bacteria assist in converting T4 into T3. The treatment also helps in overcoming complications of underactive thyroid, thus helping in illnesses such as chronic fatigue, infertility and obesity.

However natural treatment of hypothyroidism, especially the mild and borderline cases demand certain dietary considerations, lifestyle changes and supplementation.

Dietary considerations include-

  1. Avoiding goitrogens like cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, mustard greens, turnip, spinach etc which increase the need for iodine and damage the thyroid gland.
  2. Avoiding foods that trigger autoimmune response which include grains like oats, rice and wheat, all dairy products, eggs, legumes such as beans and peanuts, all sugars, all oils, food additives and alcohol.
  3. Avoiding v.low carb diets which tend to decrease thyroid function.

Lifestyle changes include-

  1. Managing stress - chronic stress impairs thyroid function at many different levels. Homeopathic medicines reduce the distressing symptoms of stress only by enhancing your ability to cope with it.
  2. Increased exposure to sun as sun exposure has been shown to be protective against autoimmune diseases.

Supplementation includes-

  1. Vitamin-D intake if sun exposure is not sufficient to achieve adequate levels
  2. Iodine and Selenium deficiency should be recovered from food. Iodine rich foods like organic yogurt, seafood, organic potatoes and eggs and selenium rich foods like sunflower seeds, oats, chicken, salmon and tuna fish should be included in diet. Significant deficiency requires supplementation.
