Around Menopause and My Hypothyroid was behaving Bad…

Menopause
July 24, 2017

I am 45years old now and almost approaching menopause (peri-menopause). With this major shift of my menstrual cycle there was another major problem I was suffering from and that was a major hairloss. I was suffering from an underactive thyroid and my allopathic medicine was no longer effective. I had researched a lot and then found out that homoeopathy would be very helpful in my case. Without wasting much time I visited a homoeopathic doctor. She took a lot of details and then prescribed me homoeopathic medicines and also advised me on my diet and exercises. To my surprise I was feeling much better with all my symptoms. My hair had stopped to thin and the lost gloss was back. My thyroid too was consistently normal and the dosage of my allopathic medicine had gone down. Homoeopathy gave me a new lease of life and I entered a pleasant menopause.

What is Peri-Menopause and how can your thyroid be impacted by it?

Peri-Menopause is just the opposite of puberty. In puberty your ovaries are waking up to start your reproductive years and in Peri-Menopause the ovaries start to shut down causing a decline in female hormone progesterone and increase of oestrogen. Oestrogen increase can prevent the thyroid hormone from getting to where it needs to go and can prevent it from getting converted into its active form. High oestrogen also affects the immune system. As oestrogen is the dominant sex hormone in women, this explains why autoimmunity and thyroid disease is more common in women

Hypothyroid and Hairloss

Research suggests that nearly half of all adults experience thinning of hair by the age of 40. Out of which about 20 percent of individuals with hypothyroid are evidenced to experience hair loss earlier and more quickly than others. Many patients also do not realize that their hair loss may be triggered by a thyroid disorder. They keep trying to manage their hair loss with different oils, shampoos, parlor therapies or even medications, but with no results. However when they visit a trichologist for their hair problems, based on their history and clinical signs, they are advised investigations, which confirm the suspicion of thyroid problem being the culprit. Hypothyroidism makes hair dry, brittle, coarse and sparse, on the outer edge of the eyebrows. When the cause of hair loss due to thyroid disorder is established, the next step is to treat the hormonal imbalance. Once this is done, hairloss automatically comes under control.

Homoeopathy

Homoeopathy helps to produce thyroid hormone naturally by stimulating the immune system and helps in better functioning of the thyroid gland.

Homoeopathic remedies work by stimulating the body’s own healing capacity by encouraging the body to reactivate hormone secretions.

Homeopathy is free from any side-effects. Not only do homoeopathic medicines reduce hairloss but they also protect the body from harmful side-effects that are common with conventional drugs.

Stress causes hormonal disturbances in the body like thyroid problems which are known to cause hairloss and is very effectively treated with homeopathy.

Homoeopathy is a mind-body medicine. Homoeopathy treats not only the physical complaints, but also targets the mind and gently restores mind-body equilibrium- thus it treats the patient as a whole. This makes homoeopathy an excellent solution for hair problems related to the mind such as stress related patchy hairloss (alopecia areata) or stress induced massive hair shedding.

Homoeopathy helps to slow down the progression of the patchy hair loss and fill them up with new hair. A complete recovery is possible in most cases with homoeopathy. Hypothyroid is a known triggering factor for patchy hair loss and homoeopathy treats thyroid problems very effectively.
