Acne

The cool weather and the refreshing monsoon showers will feel like bliss after the sweltering heat of summer. However, with the cool breeze and showers comes humidity which is an ideal breeding ground for bacteria. This in turn leads to pimples or acne. But there's nothing to get disheartened, a little attention and care at home can keep your skin pimple free.

Monsoon acne: Why does it occur?

Each year, with the advent of the Indian monsoons, the summer heat combines with the humidity and triggers the increased production of sebum, an oily, yellowish, wax-like substance on your skin. Sebum helps to retain moisture inside the skin, which promotes skin hydration and flexibility. If produced in the right amount, it is not harmful. When it is produced in excess, sebum tends to clog our pores, by mixing with the dirt, dead cells and dust that collects on the skin’s surface. That’s how acne is born.

How to treat monsoon acne?

Fight monsoon acne at home

The changes in the weather can take a toll on your skin. To combat this, tweak your skincare regime as per the changing weather to avoid skin breakouts.

Here are certain home-based tips to get rid of the breakouts and to help you enjoy the monsoons with flawless skin:

  • Neem fruit

This fruit serves as an antidote to acne. Gently massage the insides of the neem fruit on the acne and leave it to dry. Wash the area with a gentle cleanser. Do this daily for an acne-free monsoon season.

  • Steam the pimples away

Steam your face for a few minutes regularly. This will help open the pores and eradicate the acne from its root. It is recommended to dab your skin with a soft fabric and not touch your face too much or rub it with a towel after steaming.

  • Check your diet

Food that is rich in fat can act as a trigger for acne. Include leafy and green vegetables and fruits in your diet for sufficient intake of the necessary vitamins and minerals.

  • Wash your face and the areas affected by acne

Exposure to dirt and dust leads to several skin diseases and acne is no exception. It is therefore important to wash your face and the affected areas with water regularly, especially after exercise or outdoor activities.

  • Choose the perfect cleanser

Exposure to dust and dirt leads to the growth of bacteria on the skin and acne. It is important to clean your face after staying outdoors for long hours. This will keep your skin free of bacteria and prevent acne. Also, stay away from excessive cleansing as it will strip the natural moisture of your skin.

  • Touch me not

Wash your hands before applying anything to your face; this will keep germs and bacteria away. Touching your face, especially the infected area will spread the bacteria and cause more acne.

  • Defend your skin with sunscreen

The harmful UV radiation can penetrate the clouds. Always apply a light-weight sunscreen before you step outdoors.

  • Avoid heavy makeup

Heavy, greasy makeup products can clog the pores and the ingredients can make your skin prone to acne. Always prep your skin with a matte primer before you apply light make-up.

If home-based care is not giving you relief, consult a dermatologist and get a treatment that is compatible with your skin.

Homeopathy treatment for acne

Acne can be triggered by multiple factors such as climate, food, stress, hormones, and an irregular lifestyle. Homeopathy targets the root cause of acne and offers long-term relief.  The homeopathic treatment for acne are selected based on one’s health history, likes and dislikes, temperament, and causative factors. Homeopathy is, therefore, a therapy-based system that is individualized and depends on the unique symptoms, causes, and characteristics of an individual. For instance, if two individuals are being treated for the same illness, they may receive different homeopathic treatments from the same homeopathic doctor. This is because of their unique requirements and the assessment of how their bodies will respond to the treatment.

According to a case study published in the Journal of Complementary Medicine Research, 2 cases of severe acne were treated with individualized homeopathic medicines. The treatment resulted in a remission rate of more than 80%. Moreover, the treatment provided long-lasting relief.

At Dr Batra’s®, we have successfully treated more than 3 lakh cases of skin conditions including acne with a positive treatment outcome rate of 94.3% (authenticated by American Quality Assessors) over the past 35 years. Our homeopathic dermatologists also provide an individualized diet plan if necessary along with homeopathic acne treatment. Book an appointment with us for visible improvement in acne without any side effects.
