“If you have psoriasis, you can't let it ruin your life or get the best of you. You have to do what you can to make sure you are comfortable, but not let it take over." ~ Kimberly Kardashian West (American socialite, model, businesswoman& actress)on her journey with psoriasis.

October is marked as World Psoriasis Day. This day is dedicated to people living with psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis and to raise awareness about this skin disease.

What is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory disease, which affects the skin’s surface. Psoriasis disease causes inflamed, red, flaky, and itchy skin; often around the scalp, elbows, lower back, and genitals, but they can appear anywhere on the body. Psoriasis can also affect the fingernails. In most individuals, the skin rash is limited to a few red patches on the skin. In severe psoriasis, red spots on the skin can cover large areas of the body. The body’s immune system; unreasonably accelerating the growth of skin cells, is the underlying cause of psoriasis. The build-up of old cells being replaced by new cells; creates silvery scales of psoriasis on the skin.

Most people with psoriasis experience skin lesions; however, severity varies from person to person. Psoriasis Vulgaris or plaque psoriasis is divided into six types; plaque psoriasis, scalp psoriasis, guttate psoriasis, pustular psoriasis, psoriasis in sensitive areas, and nail psoriasis. Here is a summary for your better understanding.

Summary of Different Types of Psoriasis

  • Plaque psoriasis affects the whole body and is the most common type of psoriasis. It is caused by the build-up of skin cells known as plaque.
  • Scalp psoriasis affects the scalp. It may result in dandruff-like flakes and in extreme cases, cause thinning of the hair.
  • Guttate psoriasis affects the torso — back and limbs. It is also known as ‘teardrop’ psoriasis due to the shape of the spots that are often bright pink or red on the skin.
  • Pustular psoriasis can affect the whole body. It results in small white or yellow blisters on top of the red or darkened skin. The blisters are often filled with fluid, giving them a yellow color.
  • Psoriasis in sensitive areas affects the face, armpits, genitals, and skin folds. The skin is more sensitive in particular areas, especially around skin folds.
  • Nail psoriasis affects the nails. It often affects the nails or toenails and can be painful; restricting movement.

The severity of psoriasis is assessed in the clinical trials by the Physician Global Assessment scale; which is a 6 point, 0 to 5 measure of psoriasis. It is based on the different psoriasis symptoms found, across the whole body. Additionally, the severity of psoriasis is measured by the way in which psoriasis affects a person's quality of life.

Psoriasis symptoms are often located in areas of the body that are visible to a naked eye. There is a misconception associated with the psoriasis disease that it is contagious, hampering an individual’s self-esteem. However, psoriasis is not infectious; it cannot be transferred from one person to another, through physical contact.

According to a research study conducted by the National Psoriasis Foundation, depression is the number one comorbidity of psoriasis. Psoriasis skin disease can take a toll on a patient’s physical as well as mental health. Psoriasis has also been linked to a high risk of psoriatic arthritis, cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and eye problems like conjunctivitis.

Psoriasis Treatment with Homeopathy

The homeopathic doctors can mostly identify psoriasis based on the visible symptoms of psoriasis, the patient’s medical history, and examination of the skin lesions. Dr Batra’s™ has introduced India’s first 3D imaging device for the analysis and evaluation of skin health. The powerful skin diagnostic machine, developed by the scientists in Dublin is based on advanced optical technology. It enables the multi-spectral analysis of the epidermis (topmost lay of the skin) and dermis (beneath the epidermis). A quick scan by the 3D imaging device reveals how rough the skin is, how deep the wrinkles are, and the degree of red patches on the skin. The device eliminates a subjective analysis and allows the homeopathic doctors to communicate about the patient’s level of progress, indefinite terms.

A homeopathy specialist, based on the diagnostic results, provides customized treatment plans that include counseling, homeopathic medicines, and diet plans. Dr Batra’s™ has successfully treated more than 25,000 cases of psoriasis with the goodness of homeopathy. A study conducted by AC Nielson, concluded, that when compared to the general practitioners and local homeopaths, a high rate of improvement is seen with Dr Batra’s™ skin treatments. The homeopathic remedies prescribed for psoriasis rectify the body’s immunity level. The homeopathic medications help to control the further development of psoriasis without any side-effects.

At Dr Batra’s™, one can also take the skin evaluation test in order to assess the current skin condition. Book an appointment with our homeopath at: https://www.drbatras.com/book-an-appointment when you spot the symptoms of psoriasis disease and seek effective homeopathy treatment.
