Warts: Treatment and Prevention

Warts
March 24, 2021

Warts can be an embarrassing subject to talk about and an even more frustrating skin condition to deal with. If you’ve ever had a wart, you know how painful, unsightly, and downright annoying it can be. You just want it to go away, but it never seems to go away fast enough. However, treating them may help speed their departure.

Warts occur when skin cells grow faster than normal because they are infected with the human papillomavirus (HPV), a viral infection that's passed between people through skin-to-skin contact. Warts grow only on the upper skin layer of the body. A typical wart has a raised and rough surface (some, like those on the face, maybe smooth and flat).

Warts are almost universal in the population; they affect people of all ages but children are more prone to warts and they are uncommon among older people. This skin disorder generally does not harm and usually disappears on its own over time. But it can cause pain and irritation since warts often grow on the soles of feet, can make walking and exercise painful.

Precautions that can help prevent warts

By taking these dermatologist-recommended precautions, you can cut back the risk of you and your family getting warts:

1. Avoid touching someone’s wart. HPV is contagious; the virus can get inside your body through a cut or scratch and can cause a wart.

2. Make sure you do not share washcloths, towels, nail clippers, and other personal items. If someone in your home has a wart, this helps prevent warts from spreading from one person to another.

3. Clean and cover cuts and scrapes. HPV is everywhere. If you touch something contaminated with HPV, it’s easier for the virus to induce within your body through a cut or scrape, and may lead to a wart.

4. Wash your hands often. Since HPV is common, this helps to get rid of the virus from your skin.

5. Prevent cracked and dry skin.  It’s easier for HPV to slip in through cracked and dry skin and can cause a wart.

6. Stop nail-biting and chewing cuticles. It causes sores and tears in the skin that are too tiny to see and make it easier for HPV to induce within your body.

Warts: Treatment and Prevention

Home Remedies for Warts

1. Duct tape: Anecdotal evidence suggests that this low-risk, the low-tech approach may deprive the wart of oxygen and infectious agent particles are removed along with the tape.

2. Honey: Honey not only reduces warts but also cleanses the skin from the depth and has a long-lasting effect.

3. Banana: Banana is found to have proteolytic enzymes that gradually eat away warts.

4. Garlic: Enriched with anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic properties, garlic has been found to cure warts within weeks.

5. Green Papaya: Papaya serves as a source of an enzyme that eats away the dead skin and helps in getting rid of warts.

Viral warts can be confused at times with molluscum contagiosum, birth-marks, lichen planus, etc. A detailed examination by a trained doctor makes the diagnosis clear. There are more than 100 types of warts and multiple reasons behind their occurrence. Most of them are harmless; however, genital warts may lead to cervical cancer in women. So if you notice these lumpy bits of flesh in your intimate areas, seek medical attention right away.

Treatment for Warts

Some experts recommend immediate treatment to reduce the amount of virus spread into nearby tissues and possibly lower the risk of recurrence. There are several treatment options available if you don’t prefer to wait it out:

Use of acid: Acids initially control the growth of warts and then remove the dead skin. Removing warts with acid can be more effective with the cryotherapy procedure.

Cryotherapy (freezing): In cryotherapy, liquid nitrogen is applied on and around the wart to freeze it to form a blister around. This causes your skin to let go of dead cells.

Laser treatment: Doctors can use lasers to burn the wart and then remove it.

Injecting medicine in warts: The doctor injects bleomycin into the wart to stop the growth.

Although the above-mentioned treatments show effect almost instantaneously, they also come with a share of side effects. If you’re looking for a natural and safe medium to treat warts, homeopathy might be a solution. Homeopathic treatment embraces the body's natural response system and treats the root cause of the illness without any side effects.

Homeopathic Treatment for Warts

For curing warts, a holistic approach is needed and this is where homeopathy excels. Homeopaths alleviate both physiological and psychological aspects and treat the body as a completely connected system. In the process, widespread improvements are achieved and the underlying causes are addressed.

Homeopathy not only offers a promising cure for warts but also looks beyond the labels of disease to cure the causes rather than merely their symptoms. Homeopathy does not suppress the symptoms with topical applications but assists in fighting off the illness from within through homeopathic medicines. It thereby aids in the treatment as well as prevention of warts formation.

Treatment of warts should be according to classical homeopathic principles. According to a study published in the Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy, 90% of patients with various types of warts saw their warts disappear within six months when remedies that matched their individualizing symptoms were used.

At Dr Batra’s™, we have been treating patients with warts at an 89% success rate for 35 years now. Homeopathic treatment helps patients get rid of warts safely and effectively, without using conventional methods. Conventional methods — cryotherapy, surgery, laser surgery, retinoid creams, etc. — provide only temporary relief from warts and do not prevent new warts from cropping up. Book an appointment with us to get the safe, effective, and holistic homeopathy treatment for warts.
