Lichen planus is a disease that affects the skin, scalp, mouth, nails or genitals. This is an autoimmune, inflammatory, chronic, and non-infectious skin condition that is particularly characterized by flat, reddish or purplish eruptions anywhere on the body. Lichen planus is a difficult and stubborn skin condition to deal with.

Symptoms of Lichen Planus

It is very important to notice the symptoms of lichen planus because treating this condition as soon as possible is recommended. Some of the common symptoms of lichen planus include -

  • Pinkish, purplish, or grayish raised eruptions on the skin
  • Itching
  • White streaks
  • Dry skin
  • Cracked skin
  • Raised bumps

The patients who are suffering from oral lichen planus won’t be able to have very spicy, hot, or hard food. In some cases, when the patients are suffering from scalp lichen planus, the eruptions tend to form a scar after healing. This scar formation then leads to the destruction of hair roots in that particular area leading to patchy baldness in the scalp. The genital form of lichen planus gives rise to eruptions that cause pain during sexual intercourse. Therefore, it is always better to consult a doctor and take the treatment at the earliest once you suspect any of the symptoms of lichen planus as mentioned above.
