Pregnancy & Hair:

Pregnancy causes a surge of hormones in the body leading to hair growing faster and falling out less. This being the positive side of the coin, there can arise a negative side too. The Hb (iron) levels usually dip during pregnancy and can have adverse effects on the hair. Anemia or low Hb levels can hair to get dry and frizzy, as a result of which they tend to break easily and fall off.

Increased activity of sebaceous glands can lead to infections like Seborrhoea (Infective dandruff) and Tinea Capitis (fungal infection of the scalp) leading to scalp getting damaged and thereby damaging hair.

A stressful pregnancy can also lead to hair fall, so the best way to combat is to take one step at a time, eat healthy, stay happy, and enjoy this beautiful phase of life peacefully.

Medical intervention may be needed in case these dont help.

While the conventional treatment involves supplementation of iron, there can be difficulty taking them as they come with a host of side-effects like constipation and other gastric issues.

Homeopathy, on the contrary, helps effectively correct the iron deficiency and thereby improve hair fall and hair breakage without any side-effects. These medications help calm your anxious nerves too thereby helping reducing hair fall due to stress.

Skin & Pregnancy:

The surge in the hormones during pregnancy can affect your skin too. The commonest of skin issues seen are pigmentation changes, acne, allergic reactions, and stretch marks.

Pigmentation changes usually occur due to hormonal changes. You may find the area around your nipple, thighs, axilla (armpits) becoming darker than the usual. A dark line may appear from your navel to the pelvic region (linea nigra).

Another pigmentation change commonly seen during pregnancy is chloasma (melasma) that affects the face mainly the nasal region, cheeks, and forehead if it spreads. Avoiding sun exposure can help reduce Chloasma.

Acne, though uncommon, is seen in some women during pregnancy. So make sure you take care of your face, by using a mild face wash and eating the right foods.

Skin allergies may develop leading to urticarial rashes due to contact with something in the environment or certain foods taken. Make sure you take care of hygiene and quality of food taken. Also, do not wear synthetic or tight garments that may induce an allergic rash.

Stretch marks are commonly seen during the 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy, usually affecting the abdomen, thighs, breasts, hips, and buttocks. These can cause itching and discomfort in the area of stretching.

These issues are changes that are temporary and usually settle post-pregnancy. Chloasma usually lasts post-pregnancy too and hence may need medical intervention. While allopathic creams and lotions may temporary lighten the skin, homeopathic medications help control the darkening and lightening of the skin and gives long-lasting results. Homoeopathic medications when given as indicated show wonderful results.
