Psoriasis is a skin disease in which the skin cells grow too quickly. The body sheds these excess skin cells in the form of scales. Psoriasis presents as thick silvery white scales and reddish patches below the scales. Psoriasis does not spread by touching a person who is suffering from Psoriasis. There are times when the skin appears absolutely normal and then there is a period of remission of the skin disease. When it remits the person suffering from psoriasis shows symptoms of scaling skin, excessive dryness, cracking or fissured skin, redness, bleeding, in some cases the nails could be disfigured and in some cases if the joints are affected then it is called psoriatic arthritis. The prognosis of the disease depends on the age, levels of stress and a few other diseases that the person with skin psoriasis may be suffering from like thyroid disease, heart ailment, diabetes mellitus or high blood pressure. 1. Keep your skin moist. Dry skin makes psoriasis itching worse.
  2. Never scrub you’re your skin when you bathe. Friction is a triggering factor for psoriasis. Never use a luffa or scrubber when you bathe.
  3. The ultra-violet light in sunlight is a proven treatment for psoriasis, but sunburns can make psoriasis worse. Use a sunscreen with SPF 30 to prevent sunburn damage.
  4. Avoid hand sanitizers. They can have a drying effect.
  5. Shampoo gently. Rubbing a shampoo into the scalp may seem best, but it’s not. Rubbing, scrubbing, and scratching your scalp tend to make scalp psoriasis worse.
