Warts are unsightly, troublesome growths on the skin. Once they start off, the next thing you know is there are three or four of them; chances are they may spread further also. In few cases, it may cause pain and usually people prefer to get rid of them by burning, cutting or applying caustic cream. These treatment options may help you to get rid of the existing warts, but, what about if new warts appear on your body? You would like to find a permanent solution, right? This is one of the reasons, many people try homeopathic treatment for warts.

Similar was the case with fifteen-year-old Somya. She had got a wart since two months and her parents were fed up of trying different treatments that did not work at all. Initially they thought the warts would resolve gradually but this was not happening. Hearing that warts treatment in homoeopathy offers good results, Somya’s parents thought of taking homeopathic advice.

A detailed case analysis revealed that Somya was generally quite healthy, apart from a tendency to asthma which was marked in winters. She was a poor eater most of the times. She loved travelling, was afraid of dark, of horror movies and complained of pain in legs very often.

Based on these traits, she was prescribed an appropriate homeopathic remedy and was asked to follow certain self-care measures. Within few months of treatment, the warts disappeared completely, much to her delight.

Warts are growths on the skin caused due to infection by viruses of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) family. Besides being a nuisance, most warts are harmless and go away on their own. Some people, being naturally resistant to the HPV viruses, don't get warts as easily as others. Kids are more commonly affected as compared to adults. Warts can affect any area of the body but tend to invade warm, moist places, like small cuts or scratches on the fingers, hands, and feet. They are usually painless except when they occur on the soles of feet or in between fingers or toes.

Warts are contagious in nature which means that the virus can be passed from one person to another by close physical contact with the affected area or through things that the patient has touched. The virus usually cannot enter the body through intact skin - it enters via cuts, scratches or breaks in the skin. The length of time between exposure to the virus and the surfacing of a wart varies from person to person.

Warts Treatment

Conventional treatment makes use of different procedures for wart removal. Salicylic acid is the commonest topical cream used. Other methods include cryosurgery which involves freezing warts with liquid nitrogen, surgical curettage, keratolysis and laser. These methods generally provide only temporary relief and there is a tendency for relapse besides the risk of procedural complications involved.

Homeopathic treatment can play an important role in getting rid of the existing warts, preventing the formation of new ones as well as healing the tendency to wart formation. A study conducted at Nehru Homeopathic Medical College & Hospital, New Delhi in May 1995 proved the efficacy of homeopathic medicines for warts like Nitric acid, Thuja, Dulcamara over placebo. Out of the 60 cases studied, 63.6% of patients showed remarkable improvement with Homeopathic medicines as compared to only 6% of patients who improved with placebo.

Along with homeopathic medicines for warts, prevention of spread also plays an important role in treatment of warts:

  • Wash hands regularly and keep them clean
  • If there are any cuts, wounds, etc clean them thoroughly
  • Don't pick at or scratch warts since this may spread them to other areas of the body
  • Don't share articles of personal use with others
  • Foods rich in Vitamin C help in improving immunity so that you don't get warts repeatedly.
