HOMEOPATHY & HAIR LOSS

Hair Loss

What could be more depressing for anyone than noticing hair on their brush, in the drain, floor, and elsewhere around the house?

Research shows that hair loss can lead to low confidence levels, especially in people whose careers demand looking good, such as marketing executives, stewards, hosts, models, actors, and the like.

There are 40 different types of hair loss — also, 50 million men and 30 million women suffer from it at any given time.

Hair loss could help in the timely diagnosis of medical conditions. Hair starts thinning five weeks prior to detection of insulin-dependent diabetes. Hair loss on the crown of the head is linked to a 3-fold greater risk of heart disease in men. Certain ailments, like anaemia, thyroid disorders, and excessive stress also get first diagnosed due to hair loss.

Hair loss, or baldness, is now getting younger with a 250 per cent increase in the last five years in the age group of 16-25 years. Men are certainly at a genetic disadvantage with hair loss — hair loss is four times more common in men as compared to women.

The commonest type of hair loss happens is androgenetic alopecia, a progressive disorder that worsens with age. It manifests typically as a receding hairline and balding over the crown area.  A combination of various factors, such as the hormone [DHT-dihydrotesterone], heredity, smoking, stress and the intake of body-building steroids is known to cause it.

Homeopathy does not believe in only treating hair loss symptomatically. It tries to treat the ‘root cause’ of the disease individualising every case, based on the patient’s uniqueness in developing their symptoms along with their temperament and personality.

For example, hair loss in a sales manager who is dominating by nature, loves to eat sweets, and has a low appetite as eating even a little makes him feel full, may require a homeopathic medicine for hair loss that suits their temperament and personality, and not just their hair distress in isolation.

Homeopathy advocates that certain impediments to control hair loss should be taken care of along with appropriate dietary and regimen changes. Thus, in typical male pattern baldness natural DHT-inhibiting foods, such as soya are recommended. One is advised to quit smoking and alcohol intake too.

Resting adequately is important, as is regular exercise to improve the overall blood circulation of the body.

The basic aim in balding cases is to arrest the progression of hair loss, try and facilitate hair [re]growth.

The foremost advantage of homeopathic treatment is that the individual gets treated on the whole, without any side-effects — thereby making homeopathy the most ideal, safe form of medical treatment for hair loss for prolonged periods of time.
