HOMEOPATHY & ALLERGIES

Allergy
April 4, 2017

Dr John Noland MacKenzie, a nineteenth-century US physician, reported how one of his patients, a 32-year old woman, experienced allergy symptoms when exposed to the odour of roses. Her symptoms included violent cold, with watery eyes and runny nose, severe asthma attacks and high fever.

The doctor, who suspected there was more than pollen at work, decided to expose his patient to a rose during one visit.  Not surprisingly, his patient began having a severe asthma attack within five minutes of exposure to the rose.

What is truly fascinating is that the rose he used was just a beautiful paper ‘version’ of the real rose.  He spoke about his ‘trick’ to his patient. Well, when she returned to his clinic, a few days later, she buried her nostrils in a large fragrant specimen of a genuine rose and inhaled its pollen, without any of the ill-effects that had tormented her for over 15 years!

This is allergy for you...

WHAT IS ALLERGY

The word, allergy, was first used by Dr Clemens von Pirquet, MD, an Austrian paediatrician, in the early 1900s. The expression originates from the Greek allos, for altered state, and ergon, for excess physiological [functional] response to substances in the environment, or elsewhere.

Millions of people suffer from allergies. Nearly 30 per cent test ‘positive’ for one or more allergens, or allergy-causing substances, just as much as the frequency of allergic rhinitis [nasal allergy, or hay fever], asthma, food allergy, or sensitivity, and atopic dermatitis [eczema] etc., has multiplied manifold during the last 25-30 years.

WHAT RESEARCH SAYS

  • The allergic tendency is inherited; it occurs in every 2 individuals out of 5
  • If you have one allergic parent, for example, you have a 1-in-3 chance of developing allergy. If both your mother and father have allergies, the risk is two-fold.

HOMEOPATHY: SAFE, EFFECTIVE TREATMENT FOR ALLERGIES

Homeopathy treats allergies, safely and effectively. The homeopathic treatment approach for allergies is holistic — for seasonal, acute or long-standing allergies of all types.

In homeopathic clinical practice, your doctor first treats the obvious [acute] allergic conditions that one develops during the allergy season. They, thereafter, prescribe a ‘constitutional’ homeopathic medicine, or a remedy, that relates to one’s temperament, or personality — to ‘desensitise’ the individual against the allergen and also ‘block’ allergies during the symptom-free part of the year.

A study published in the British Medical Journal showed a statistically significant improvement in objectively measured nasal air flow for nasal allergy patients treated with homeopathic medicines.

In another study conducted at the University of Glasgow, Europe's largest medical school, allergic asthma patients, given small homeopathic doses of a substance to which they were most allergic, showed significant relief within the first week of treatment — with no side-effects. In other words, over 80 per cent of patients, given a homeopathic medicine for allergy improved, while only 38 per cent of patients given a placebo [dummy pill] experienced ‘some’ relief.

SELF-HELP

  • Vacuum-clean your mattress, upholstery and soft furnishing, regularly. ‘Hot-wash’ bed-sheets, pillow covers and blankets regularly. This will ensure that dust mite eggs, as well as mites, a common allergy trigger, are destroyed
  • Dust with a dampened cloth, instead of a dry cloth. Dry dusting tends to release dust containing mites and their allergens into the air
  • Boil-wash children's soft toys. Or, bag them and put them in the freezer. Either action will kill dust mites
  • You may find that your pets worsen your condition through exposure to their hair [dander], saliva, or urine. Remove pet hair and vacuum-clean the pet area regularly
  • Avoid exposure to common triggers, such as tobacco smoke, aerosol spray, certain perfumes and automobile exhaust
  • Read food labels carefully to avoid food substances that you may be allergic to
  • Follow-up with your homeopathic doctor on a regular basis.
