Treat Food Allergies With Homeopathy

How would you feel if every time when you go to a restaurant, you have to check with the table attendant each and every ingredient that goes in the making of every dish you wish to order? Wouldn’t it be annoying? Or just imagine the trauma of a child who cannot eat his favourite food because his Mom says it’s harmful for his health. How difficult would it be for the parents to explain their child why he can’t eat what his friends can? Imagine your beautiful daughter getting rashes on her skin after eating certain food items. Wouldn’t it be disturbing if you encounter any of the above experiences? Unfortunately, this is a reality for some unfortunate ones suffering from food allergies.

While we can eat anything that tastes good without really bothering about how the food has been made, people with food allergies have to check whatever they eat so that the food they consume does not cause adverse reaction in them. If you too are one of them, this post is just for you. We suggest you a safe solution to overcome your food allergy.

To simply define what exactly is food allergy, it is the condition where your immune system overreacts to a particular protein found in the food. The job of the body’s immune system is to identify and destroy germs such as bacteria or viruses that make you sick. However, a food allergy results when the immune system mistakenly targets a harmless food protein – an allergen – as a threat and attacks it. Symptoms can occur even after consuming just a tiny amount of food as well.

1 in 50 people suffers from a food allergy and 1 in 13 kids suffer from it. 90 per cent of food allergies are caused by cows' milk, eggs, wheat, peanuts, nuts, fish and shellfish. The allergic reaction results in rashes, swelling, eczema, diarrhoea, vomiting, asthma and headaches.

Food allergies can be really disturbing. Especially, it becomes difficult to keep children away from their favourite food and explain them the reason why the food causes such adverse reactions in them and not in their friends. So it is necessary to treat food allergies and not complicate the disorder any further.

RECOGNIZING SYMPTOMS OF FOOD ALLERGIES

Symptoms of food allergies typically appear from within a few minutes to two hours after a person has eaten the food to which he is allergic to. For some people, an allergic reaction to a particular food may be uncomfortable but not severe while for some others, the reaction can be scary and even life-threatening. The typical symptoms of food allergy are hives or eczema, red skin or rashes, tingling or itchy sensation in the mouth, face, tongue, or lip swelling, vomiting and/or diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, coughing or wheezing, dizziness and/or light headedness, swelling of the throat and vocal cords, difficulty in breathing, and loss of consciousness.

WHAT CAUSES FOOD ALLERGIES?

As mentioned earlier, eight things cause about 90 per cent of food allergy reactions. These are milk (mostly in children), eggs, peanuts, tree nuts like walnuts, and almonds; soy, wheat and other grains with gluten, including barley, rye, and oats; fish and shellfish. Less common ones include corn, gelatine, meat -- beef, chicken, mutton, and pork; seeds, often sesame, sunflower, and poppy and spices, such as caraway, coriander, garlic, and mustard.

So, what is mechanism behind allergic reaction to food? Allergy is the result of hyperactive response of the immune system to generally harmless substances. When immune cells encounter the allergenic protein, antibodies called IgE are produced. This is similar to the immune system's reaction to foreign pathogens. The antibodies identify the allergenic proteins as harmful and initiate the allergic reaction.

FOOD ALLERGY RISK FACTORS

Food allergy risk factors include:

Family history: You are at increased risk of food allergies if asthma, eczema, hives or allergies such as hay fever are common in your family.

Past food allergy: Children may outgrow a food allergy, but in some cases it returns later in life. As you grow older, your digestive system matures and your body is less likely to absorb food or food components that trigger allergies. Fortunately, children typically outgrow allergies to milk, soy, wheat and eggs. However, severe allergies and allergies to nuts and shellfish are more likely to be life-long.

Other allergies: If you're already allergic to one food, you may be at increased risk of becoming allergic to another. Likewise, if you have other types of allergic reactions, such as hay fever or eczema, your risk of having a food allergy is greater.

Asthma: Asthma and food allergy commonly occur together. When they do, both food allergy and asthma symptoms are more likely to be severe.

WHY HOMEOPATHY FOR TREATING FOOD ALLERGIES?

The aim of homeopathic medicine for food allergies is not only to treat food allergy but to address its underlying cause. Homeopathy views food allergies as an expression of a disturbance in the patient’s healing system and therefore the treatment works by optimising the overcharged immune system.

A study of 200 patients suffering from hypersensitivity illnesses, including asthma, eczema, urticaria, allergic rhinitis and other allergies including food allergy showed that homeopathic medicine for food allergies was as effective as conventional treatment. Where most patients who were treated with conventional medicine experienced an aggravation of their symptoms after stopping conventional drugs, only one-third of the patients treated with homeopathic medicine for food allergies experienced such an aggravation.

Only one patient on conventional treatment experienced improvement of symptoms after stopping medication, compared to improvement in two-third of the patients treated with homeopathic medicine for food allergies.

Patients in the homeopathy group reported a larger improvement in their general state of health and also experienced more positive change in their psychological well-being.
