Brief us about the healthcare scenario in India according to you? How homeopathy is placed vis-à-vis allopathic treatment?
Ayurveda is more than 3000 years old, while the conventional medical system is over 1500years old. Homeopathy is the most modern of all sciences. Over 200 years old, Homeopathy was founded by the great German physician Samuel Hahnemann in 1796. Hence Homeopathy is the most modern of all current forms of medication.

Unfortunately in India, it is clubbed with the Indian Systems of Medicines (ISM). Being associated with Ayurveda and Unani medicine creates the perception of Homeopathy being old or ancient. In fact, Homeopathy is the second largest practiced system of medicine in the world, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Homeopathy came to India courtesy Maharajah Ranjit Singh of Punjab.  It forms about 14% of total alternative market with an annual growth rate of 20-25% versus pharma which has a 10%growth.  Homeopathy market in India is worth Rs12.5bn.

In Mumbai, 52% of population use Allopathy; 39% use Homeopathy; 9% use other medicines like Ayurvedic, Unani, etc.

The Government of India developed homeopathic system of medicine by setting up Homeopathic enquiry committee way back in 1948. Today it is accepted as one of the National Systems of Medicine.  There are over 3,00,000 qualified homeopath practitioners, 7500government clinics, 307 hospitals, 180 teaching institutes affiliated to universities prevalent in India specific to Homeopathy.
A current survey in seven Indian cities revealed that 48% people trust homeopathy as the preferred choice of treatment.

Homeopathy today is practiced by doctors who are trained for 5 ½ years in a medical college. They learn subjects like Pathology, Clinical Medicine, Surgery, and Gynaecology. They also have enough clinical experience to deal with cases as most of the colleges are attached to hospitals.

The basic education in both the sciences is similar. However, the quality of training in allopathic colleges is much better in India as the training provided in the 125 homeopathic colleges in India is still not standardized.
Abroad, Homeopathy is a super specialty and therefore you have homeopathic dentists, homeopathic cardiologists, homeopathic vets and homeopathic paediatricians. Therefore, the assumption that homeopathic doctors do not know to diagnose or investigate is incorrect.

While Allopathy and the other systems of medicine only remove the symptoms or kill the bacteria, without building the immunity of the patient, Homeopathy builds the natural immunity of the patient in general and therefore keeps the body healthy and protects it from repeated bouts of illnesses. Homeopathic medicines have many a time proved to act as prophylactic medicines for various epidemic diseases; for e.g. the use of Belladonna to prevent scarlet fever and Eupatorium Perfoliatum for dengue fever.

Are people adopting homeopathy more now and why?
Homeopathy is a mind and body medicine. It treats the root cause of the problem and improves body resistance with no side-effects. Homeopaths consider the patient's total experience, both mental and physical symptoms, and the individual's emotional state, thus ensuring long-term benefits. Treatment targets the root of the problem without indiscriminately affecting the surrounding area. There are no dietary restrictions.
While allopathy offers the same formula for the same disease, Homeopathy offers several alternative remedies for each condition. The medicine selected out of a range of more than 3000 different dilutions, is targeted to the individual problem. The white pills serve only as a vehicle for transfer of the medicine. Both the curative effects and symptomatology of each medicine are tried out and proven only on healthy human beings, not rats and rabbits, making homeopathy uniquely reliable. Homeopathic medicines contain very, very small quantities of the substances called potencies, prepared in a special way. These high dilutions not only enhance their curative properties, but avoid undesirable side effects.

Homeopathic medicines are completely safe with no unwanted side effects and they are non-addictive. They are safe for babies, children and elderly people. There are more than 2,000 homeopathic medicines. They are usually presented in the form of granules, capsules, tablets or liquids, all prepared in modern laboratories in scientific conditions to the highest quality standards. They are largely made from pure, natural, vegetable sources. Granules and tablets are sweet tasting and they dissolve easily.

Homeopathy is a complete system of medicine which assists the natural tendency of the human body to heal itself. It acknowledges that all symptoms of ill health are a mere manifestation of the disharmony within the whole person and that it is the patient that requires treatment and not the disease. It has been in existence worldwide for more than 200 years and its popularity is rising in the present day. Homeopathy not only helps restore the sick to health, it also offers a method of maintaining health and preventing illness. It is a subtle yet effective therapy that can correct small imbalances long before the appearance of the more serious symptoms which denote the onset of a particular disease. It obviates the need for surgery in certain cases of warts, piles, fissures, tonsillitis, ovarian cysts or kidney stones. Fewer expensive tests and procedures are required.
Treatment is cost effective and complete. It works on minimum dosage. The more dilute the substance, the greater its effect or cure. Acco
