Anagen - (ana-gen)
The growth phase of the hair cycle during which new hair is formed.
Biopsy - (bi-op-sy)
The removal of a small sample of tissue from a living body for examination and diagnostic purposes
Catagen - (cata-gen)
A transitional phase of the hair cycle between growth phase and resting phase of the hair follicle.
Chemotherapy - (che-mo-ther-a-py )
The use of chemical agents to treat or control disease (especially cancer)
Dihydrotestosterone - (di-hy-dro-tes-tos-ter-one )
An androgen (male sex hormone) that is derived from the hormone testosterone. DHT is responsible for the formation of male primary sexual characteristics during embryonic life. It is responsible for the development of most secondary sexual characteristics in males at puberty. It continues to be important for male sexual function throughout adult life.
Folliscope - (Fo-lli-s-cope)
Also called Phototrichogram, this is a system for hair and scalp analysis using a high definition microscopic camera and exclusive software
Hair Follicles - (Hair-Fa-lekels)
Tubular cavities in outermost layer of skin from which the hair shafts grow
Keratin - (ker-a-tin )
A fibrous protein that makes up the outer layer of skin, hair, feathers, nails, hooves
Menarche - (men-ar-che )
The onset or first occurrence of menstruation in a woman
Menopause - (men-o-pause)
The time in a woman's life when the menstrual cycle ends. The woman stops menstruating after this.
Radiation - (ra-di-a-tion )
The treatment of disease (especially cancer) by exposure to a radioactive substance
Syphilis - (syph-i-lis )
A common venereal disease (caused by a microscopic organism - Treponema pallidum)
Telogen - (tel-o-gen)
A resting phase in the cycle of hair growth when the hair is retained in the hair follicle as a dead hair
Trichologist - (tri-chol-o-gist )
A person qualified in Trichology
